FEATURE // DJ WARZONE ON COLLABORATING WITH FLORIAN KUPFER FOR NATURAL SCIENCES 10 YEAR RELEASE
Alex Hall’s Manchester-based record label, Natural Sciences, celebrates its 10-year anniversary next month with the release of the fifth instalment of Embryo—a box set that bridges the imprint’s DIY punk-electronics roots with the ’80s tape scene, Ukraine’s dungeon rap movement, and the contemporary underground.
The collection features a 22-track compilation showcasing artists such as Crawl of Time, Ineffable Slime, Iggor Cavalera, DJ Sacred, Mutant Joe, Mars89, Quiet Husband, and Svartvit. It also includes an EP from DJ Warzone—highlighted by a collaboration with Florian Kupfer—alongside a 7” featuring unreleased 1989 recordings from Osiris and SEEMEN, now pressed to vinyl for the first time.
A standout from the release, DJ Warzone’s contribution to Embryo immediately caught our attention, delivering raw, speaker-shredding DIY techno with an unhinged, roughneck energy. His collaboration with Florian Kupfer is an undeniable highlight, which we are delighted to premiere.
Ahead of the drop, Natural Sciences founder Alex Hall caught up with Austrian producer DJ Warzone to find out more about the origins of his release, their affinity for Basic Channel, and his love for the abrasive sonics championed by Endangered Species, L.I.E.S. Records, and LA Club Resource.
REVIEW // ELETUN SELONA: INFINITA SERIES
WRITTEN BY WILL PATTERSON
There’s a certain apprehension when coming to objectively review a posthumous work of art. Is the review in good taste? Will I be able to deliver an impartial verdict without being caught up with the emotive nature of its context? Will I have to be more glowing than I would realistically be in normal circumstances? Music reviews are difficult enough in terms of capturing with words the sheer range of emotions conjured up by sound.
It’s a relief to me then, when I open up the files for Infinita Series, that these questions and concerns are utterly shattered. It would almost be enough to end the review here and suggest to you, the reader, not to bother with this article and simply let this piece of carefully restrained, meticulously refined techno carry you away. It is also unavoidable to mention that an album that is objectively magnificent is made doubly beautiful by the nature of how it has come into being.
Infinita Series is the final vinyl release on sewer sender, the Swedish label dreamt up by martinou and Eletun himself. This album is a labour of love not only from Eletun Selona, but it is also the result of the collaborative effort from his friends and loved ones to put together his final body of work, after the producer tragically passed away last year. It’s a culmination of dedication to music, and of determination to honour the memory, creativity and talent of a friend, which makes it worth listening to alone.
REVIEW // TIM HECKER: SHARDS
WRITTEN BY ASMI SHETTY
Splintered, shattered glass—the walls of the body— ‘Shards‘ is Tim Hecker’s latest album on Kranky. Almost two years since his previous album, I am happy to be sitting by the window to his sound, writing words with etched meanings for an emotionally eloquent body of music. Admittedly, the more I reach for explanations, the more they slip through my fingers.
Shards is aptly named—unlike a typical album, it is composed of fractured audio, each track a fragment of an unseen whole. Curated for fuller, longer-form TV and film scores, Shards is ephemeral and painfully rich. Listening to it is like brushing against a sharp memory that leaves blisters—the sting of a dozen paper cuts, shallow but just deep enough to bleed. Hecker sews sentiments into the skin, threading through a million things he wants to recall, reassert, and convey.
“Heaven Will Come”, a track for the times, its ghostly, high-pitched drones linger in the room, scabbing over wounds almost forgotten. A heavy opener, it leaves just enough space for the promise of respite. That promise nearly materialises in “Morning (Piano Version),” where playful keys drift in and out, only to be swallowed by an electric static. Clearly the track’s abrasiveness is vivid and intentional, designed to trigger the very comfortable.
REVIEW // LORADENIZ: SUN SHONE
WRITTEN BY KATINKA YAWETZ
Amsterdam-based composer, pianist, vocalist and producer Loradeniz is a harbinger of the ethereal and hypnotic in her debut album release on Music From Memory, an ambient, neo-classical work titled “SUN SHONE“. Born in Istanbul, Deniz Omeroglu curates an album with melodic sensibilities similar to those of classical Turkish folk music, maintaining fluidity whilst composing deeply expressive, textured and emotionally rich soundscapes, evoking delicate nostalgia alongside a dreamlike weightlessness.
In 2023, the release of her two singles “Orison” and “Moonpath Nocturne” can be listened to not only in their own right but as foreshadowing to this new creation and its hymn-like sensibility, and when listened to in succession, one can appreciate the refinement of vocal experimentation that has taken place as well as the layering of a heavily synth-driven undercurrent married with orchestral elements to produce an intricate web of instrumentation.
Due to Omeroglu being the sole creative on this work, remaining alone in the writing, production and performing, which all took place at her studio in Amsterdam, “SUN SHONE” is a profoundly individual album that celebrates the personal and intimate whilst remaining expansive in its exploration of genre and experience.

Dub techno is a genre that thrives on atmosphere, space, and subtlety, and no album embodies those qualities better than 'The Seduction of Silence' by Intrusion (aka Stephen Hitchell). Released on CD format in 2009 on echospace [detroit], this album is now available for the first time on wax.

Released in 2002 via Warp and repressed in 2017 by Clone, 'Sunday Night Live at The Laptop Cafe' is a deep, emotional slice of Detroit techno, blending minimal yet warm, melodic textures with influences from electro and classic machine-funk grooves. The B-side features a remix by DJ Stingray as Mystic Tribe a.i.
